THE PRE-SELECTION COMMITTEE FOR THE 4TH “BEYOND BORDERS” 2019
The Pre-Selection Committee of the 4th “Beyond Borders” International Documentary Festival in Castellorizo is made up of of distinguished people of the arts and letters. Meet them below!
Born and raised in Kavala, Greece, Tasos Giapoutzis lives and works in London as a freelance filmmaker and lecturer in film theory and practice at the University of Bedfordshire. In 2017 he was awarded full scholarship from the University of York to carry out his doctoral studies in Film by Creative Practice. His films have participated at more than 100 film festivals worldwide. In the past he worked on Distribution and Sales at the Feature Films Department of Red Bull Media House in Salzburg, Austria. His training as a director includes participations at the Go Short Talent Campus in Nijmegen, the Talent Development Campus in Cork as well as the Reykjavik Talent Lab.
He was born in Athens in 1977. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He has exhibited his work in seven individual exhibitions and he has taken part in multiple team exhibitions. Works of his are in private collections in Greece and abroad. He specializes in HD and Ultra HD photography, Multispectral photography (UV, IR), archeological photography as well as in macro-photography. He shoots paintings, art installations, architectural spaces and portraits. He has photographed archeological findings in museums and historical sites. He is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece, the Hellenic Centre for Photography and the Hellenic Copyright Organization. He lives and works in Athens.
Kostas Follas was born on 9th January 1975 in Athens where he grew up. He is a journalist and has worked, among others, for the newspapers “Athlitiki Iho” and “Niki tis Dimokratias”, as well as for websites. In 2018 he filmed his first documentary “A Tree Remembers” which was screened on various Greek festivals (Thessaloniki, Kastellorizo, Chalkida, Peloponnisos).
Giorgos Mantas lives in Athens. He has a Film Director diploma from New York College (Dept. of Film Studies). He has worked in cinema, theatre and television productions. He is a collaborator of “Beyond Borders” as an editor.
BA (Honors) Communication and Image Studies of University of Kent MA Heritage Management, Athens University of Economics and University of Kent. She works as a director in ERT SA since 1998 mainly in documentaries and broadcasts relating to social, cultural and children’s issues and in international co-productions. She has also worked in the field of promotion and heritage branding not only within ERT, but also in the private sector. She’s been a jury member of the ERT MICROFILM program. In May 2015 she published her first children’s book titled ‘TOUMPALIN’ (Vice Versa) from MINOAS versions. Two of her documentaries have been screened at the Documentary Festival in Kalamata and the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. She is the General Secretary of “Beyond Borders”.
