Participation Terms

Film Submission

  1. Deadline for all applications May 15, 2019. The selected participants will be notified by e-mail until June 10, 2019.
  2. Documentaries must have been produced in the last five years (2015-2019).
  3. For the pre-selection stage it would be sufficient to submit the documentaries via YouTube or Vimeo with English subtitles, along with the necessary passwords.
  4. Participants whose films will be selected, must submit the required material to Beyond Borders, by one of the following ways:

Specifically:

Copy of the movie with hardcoded (burned) English subtitles.

or:

“Clean” copy of the movie (no hardcoded subtitles).

Individual file with synchronized English subtitles in .srt format.

“Clean” copy of the movie (no hardcoded subtitles).

Individual file with synchronized English subtitles (for the whole movie) in .srt format.

Individual file with synchronized Greek subtitles (for the parts where any other language than Greek is used) in .srt format.

“Clean” copy of the movie (no hardcoded subtitles).

Individual file with synchronized English subtitles in .srt format.

  1. The final copy that would be screened should have the following format:
  1. The file must be delivered by one of the following ways:

Stored in usb3 Flash memory or memory stick or Hard Disk Drive (will be returned after the festival, if requested), or via internet (see par. 4).

  1. Entrants whose films will be selected, may submit electronically photos, posters, press releases etc, for promotional activities (optional).
  2. All material should reach the Festival offices by June 30, 2019.
  3. There is no participation fee.
  4. The evaluation will be made by a jury of well-known film directors. Prizes will be awarded for:
    • Best History Documentary
    • Best Socio-political Documentary
    • Special Awards (Honorable Mention, Audience Award)

The awards are a kind courtesy of the Hellenic Parliament.

  1. Awarded and nominated films will offer the Festival the rights for three more screenings after the end of the Festival.
  2. The finalists will be invited to Castellorizo, with travel and accommodation costs covered.
  3. The Festival has the right to reject any application if it is not fully completed or the required material does not reach the Festival offices in time.
  4. The Festival decides and is responsible for the screening schedule of the film (day and hour) and may organize screenings of the films in any theatre during the Festival.
  5. The Festival has the right to reject any material which does not meet the character and objectives of its program.
  6. The Festival may use limited excerpts of the film or the trailer for promotional purposes.
  7. Participants should accept to give interviews to the communication sponsors and to be photographed if asked.
  8. Parts of the Festival will be filmed for the “Beyond Borders” Festival archive and for its promotion to the public. Members of the audience and participants that may appear in these parts cannot have any claims from the organizing company.
  9. During “Beyond Borders” Festival, parallel events will take place.
  10. “Beyond Borders” Festival organizing team reserves the right to cancel the Festival, should it be necessary.
  11. Participation in “Beyond Borders” International Documentary Festival implies acceptance of the above regulations.
