Participation Terms

Film Submission

  1. Deadline for all applications is April 20, 2020. The selected participants will be notified by e-mail until 30th of May, 2020.
  2. Documentaries must have been produced in the last five years (2015-2019).
  3. For the pre-selection stage it would be sufficient to submit the documentaries via youtube or vimeo with English subtitles, along with the necessary passwords.
  4. Participants whose films will be selected, must submit the required material to Beyond Borders.

All files should be uploaded to the Google Drive link you receive and delivered to the Festival’s headquarters (1 Bouboulinas 1, 15351 Pallini, Greece) in usb3-Flash memory, or memory stick, or hard disk (returns after the completion of the Festival on request).

  1. Specifically:

Copy of the movie with hardcoded (burned) English subtitles.

Individual file with synchronized English subtitles in .srt format.

Copy with hardcoded English subtitles on the movie.

Attention: the .srt files must keep up with the movie frame rate. If not so, the participation will be disqualified.

“Clean” copy of the movie (no hardcoded subtitles).

Individual file with synchronized English subtitles (for the whole movie) in .srt format.

Individual file with synchronized Greek subtitles (for the parts where any other language than Greek is used) in .srt format.

Attention: the .srt files must keep up with the movie frame rate. If not so, the participation will be disqualified.

“Clean” copy of the movie (no hardcoded subtitles).

  1. The final copy that would be screened should have the following format:
  1. The file must be delivered by one of the following ways:
  2. All files should be uploaded to the Google Drive link you receive and delivered to the Festival’s headquarters (1 Bouboulinas 1, 15351 Pallini, Greece) in usb3-Flash memory, or memory stick, or hard disk (returns after the completion of the Festival on request).
  3. Entrants whose films will be selected, may submit electronically photos, posters, press releases etc, for promotional activities (optional).
  4. All material should reach the Festival offices by June 10, 2020.
  5. There is no participation fee.
  6. The evaluation will be made by a jury of well-known film directors. Prizes will be awarded for:
    • Best History Documentary : 800 euros
    • Best Socio-political Documentary : 700 euros
    • Best Greek History Documentary: 600 euros
    • Best Greek Socio-political Documentary: 500 euros
    • Best Short Length Documentary: 200 euros
      The awards are a kind contribution of the Hellenic Parliament. EKOME & SteFilm Post Production will also provide awards.
  7. Awarded and nominated films will offer the Festival the rights for three more screenings after the end of the Festival.
  8. The finalists will be invited to Castellorizo, with travel and accommodation costs covered.
  9. The Festival has the right to reject any application if it is not fully completed or the required material does not reach the Festival offices in time.
  10. The Festival decides and is responsible for the screening schedule of the film (day and hour) and may organize screenings of the films in any theatre during the Festival.
  11. The Festival has the right to reject any material which does not meet the character and objectives of its program.
  12. The Festival may use limited excerpts of the film or the trailer for promotional purposes.
  13. Participants should accept to give interviews to the communication sponsors and to be photographed if asked.
  14. Parts of the Festival will be filmed for the “Beyond the Borders” Festival archive and for its promotion to the public. Members of the audience and participants that may appear in these parts cannot have any claims from the organizing company.
  15. During “Beyond the Borders” Festival, parallel events will take place.
  16. “Beyond the Borders” Festival organizing team reserves the right to cancel the Festival, should it be necessary.
  17. Participation in “Beyond the Borders” International Documentary Festival implies acceptance of the above regulations.
