“Beyond Borders” International Documentary Festival has just been successfully completed (on 3 September 2016) in Castellorizo island.

The Festival, held under the auspices of the General Secreteriat for Greeks Abroad and the Municipality of Megisti, promoted several cultural activities such as book launches, seminars, tributes to Castellorizo island’s history and ended with the awards ceremony and a tribute to rebetiko song by Babis Tsertos and his band.

Beyond Borders was organized with the kind support of

– the Greek National Tourism Organization, which was represented during the Festival by its General Secretary, Dimitris Tryfonopoulos


the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy

Periphery of South Aegean as well as the

Australian Friends of Κastellorizo.

The awards were a kind contribution of the Hellenic Parliament.

“Beyond Borders” Film Festival will soon be traveling to Australia, where the winning films will be screened across the country.


Best History Documentary:

“The sacking of Phocea 1914”, Agnes Sklavou, Stelios Tatakis (up to 60 minutes)

“It was all just a good dream – The Frenchman from Vucovar”, Branko Istvancic (60+ minutes)

Best Socio-political Documentary:

“Katinoula, Myrna Tsapa” (Up to 60 minutes)

“The longest run”, Marianna Economou (60+ minutes)

Special Award:

“I’m ninety but…”. Michalis Chatzinikolaou, one of the last shipwrights”, Yorgos Tzedakis-Grigoris Tsiogas
