One hundred years after the Treaty of Lausanne, the people of Imbros are striving for a present of their own, with the displacements of the past century visible all around them. Ruined villages, lives long swallowed by time, and shared rituals and ways of life form a unique cultural palimpsest where memory and borders are constantly shifting. Yet coexistence is not always easy.

Director: Giorgos Iliopoulos

Giorgos Iliopoulos (born 1986 in Ioannina) is a documentary director, screenwriter and producer based in Athens. He studied film at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, earning an MFA in Advanced Film Practice from Edinburgh Napier University on a British Film Institute scholarship and receiving the Medal of Excellence. Since 2015, he has been involved in the direction and production of television and independent productions, including the VICE Specials series (2017-2019).
His debut feature-length documentary “Exile(s): Stories of an Island” which was co-produced with ERT and the Greek Film Centre, premiered at the 28th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. There, it won the FIPRESCI Award for Best Greek Film, the ERT Grand Award and an honourable mention from the PACE Human Rights in Motion Award. He is currently developing his next feature film “The Thread of Time” which is supported by the Greek Recovery and Resilience Fund.
