At first glance, it’s a hospital like any other. But only on the surface. At the Vynnyky Medical Centre on the outskirts of Lviv in Ukraine, they exclusively treat those wounded in war: amputees and the disfigured. It’s a place where physical and psychological reconstruction meets collective resilience. Following a recent agreement between the Ukrainian and French governments, facial reconstruction surgeons have been called upon to treat those who have lost their faces in the fighting. Led by Professor Chloé Bertolus, one of Europe’s leading specialists, this team travels several times a year to repair flesh damaged by bullets and shrapnel from the Russian army. The film bears witness to their medical expertise and personal commitment, as well as the bonds they forge with local staff and patients.
