Kix

by Dávid Mikulán, Bálint Révész, Hungary, 2024, 90' Greek Premiere

Kix follows an energetic 8-year-old, Sanyi, as he roams the streets of Budapest, staying as far away as possible from his family’s cramped one-bedroom apartment. On the streets, the world is his playground, where he hangs out with a handful of friends and filmmakers David and Balint – only a decade older than him, but surrogate brothers to him. Kix whips through countless days of Sanyi’s childhood like a fever dream. A few days after his 16th birthday, Sanyi and his friends set fire to a mattress, the fire spreads and kills a father of four. The tragic news makes it to the national media and Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, visits the scene. Sanyi and his friends were declared enemies of the state. By the end of the film, Sanyi stands as both a symbol of ruthless criminality and a victim of profound state indifference.
