“Slow Death” is an activist researcher’s chronicle of an ecological disaster. This documentary confronts narratives of death, life and hope in Elbistan, a region engulfed by two thermal power plants and coal mines. It reflects not only Elbistan’s story, but also the impending disasters we are navigating —disasters that are the result of the development dream.

Director: İlkay Nişancı

İlkay Nişancı is an associate professor in the Department of Cinema at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Communication. He has directed and edited numerous documentaries, feature films, music videos and TV programmes. He is also a musician and wrote songs and played the guitar for the heavy metal band ELA. He is the creator and director of the HBO Max documentary series “Eko Eko Eko” and his latest film “The Exam at the Edge of Time” has won multiple awards at major Turkish film festivals.
