Wild Women of Anatolia

This documentary is a collection of stories from five women across five landscapes of Anatolia in which they reveal their own experiences of being “savage” women, their freedom dreams and their connections to nature. Our documentary consists of 4 chapters: Earth, Water, Fire & Air.

Sedef Özoğuz is a writer, documentary filmmaker, and professor of Psychology at The New School in New York. She was born and raised in Istanbul and received her academic training in England. She then moved to New York to complete her PhD in Critical Social Psychology. Throughout her academic career, Sedef has found ways to integrate psychology and film. She filmed her first feature-length documentary, Wild Women of Anatolia, with her sister Aslı Özoğuz, which focuses on the freedom, dreams, hopes, and desires of five women across Anatolia.

Aslı Özoğuz is a writer and film director based in Istanbul, Turkey. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Media and Communications at Goldsmiths and holds a degree in Narrative Filmmaking from Prague Film School. She has worked as an Assistant Director in the film industry for the past five years, participating in the production of independent short films as well as feature-length Hollywood and Netflix films. She has written and directed two short films: Maya (2020) and Look at Us Now (2018). Aslı co-directed her first feature-length documentary, Wild Women of Anatolia, with her sister, focusing on the freedom, dreams, hopes, and desires of five women across Anatolia.
