Anatomy of a Lost Sound recounts the biography of a volatile sound and its role in shaping a militarised youth camp, modelled after the many that formed across Eastern Europe. The narrative intertwines with one of the participant’s family histories, spanning from the Sephardic migration under Bayezid II to persecution in the 1940s and later complicity during the Bosnian War. The film highlights how history evolves, erasing simplistic notions of innocence and blame.

Director: Zuko Garagić

Zuko Garagić is a filmmaker whose speculative cinema moves between archival fragments and expressionist reconstruction. Born to a Jewish expatriate mother and a Bosnian Muslim father who escaped his disintegrating country at seventeen, and raised by a father who was a Vietnam veteran, his cinema treats history as a system engineered to hide its own crimes. Zuko most recently directed and produced a short film in Argentina under the mentorship of Academy Award-winning director Paolo Sorrentino, and participated in the Locarno Film Festival Spring Academy. He graduated summa cum laude from New York University (NYU) and earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Columbia University, where he taught as a Teaching Fellow and Adjunct Professor.
