On the island of Naxos, where the pressures of overtourism are increasingly shaping everyday life, a group of residents have chosen a different path. A winemaker, a beekeeper, a musician and someone dedicated to reviving a historic neighbourhood reveal their vision for a quieter future for the island, one that is rooted in community, tradition and a deep connection to the land. Through their stories, the film explores the challenges posed by unchecked tourism and the determination of those who continue to live, create and resist in their own way. This is a cinematic testimony about Naxos, its people, and the struggle to preserve what truly matters.

Director: Orestis Rouskas

Orestis Rouskas is an Athens-based filmmaker. He holds a degree in Art and Media and directs video documentaries for organisations. He also serves as a film programmer at the Micro µ Festival in Chania. He graduated from the Department of Communication and Culture at Panteion University. He has worked on film productions as an assistant director and script supervisor. He also holds a Master’s degree in Cultural Management from the Department of Media. He served as production manager for the Animasyros International Animation Festival in 2024 and 2025. He also oversaw the production of the first International Centre of Film for Children and Young People (CIFEJ) conference in Athens in May 2025. His latest short film “Smyrida, Marble, and Vine” (2025) premiered at the Drama Film Festival, where it won the Documentary Award. He is currently working in Karlsruhe as a guest artist at the ZKM.
