Co-written and narrated by Koki, Tito’s 67-year-old talking cockatoo “Koki, Ciao” is an experimental autobiographical documentary with a non-human animal at its centre. Through recordings made over four years, archival footage and state archives, the film reconstructs Koki’s life on the Brijuni Islands, the former residence of Josip Broz Tito and a key site of the Non-Aligned Movement. From encounters with world leaders and celebrities to his present-day existence as a tourist attraction, Koki recounts a peculiar story of memory, power and captivity.

Director: Quenton Miller

Quenton Miller is an Australian-British filmmaker and visual artist based in the Netherlands. He studied at the Van Eyck Academy and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (KABK). His work moves between documentary, fiction and experimental cinema, exploring themes of language, identity, history and dislocation, often through humour and influences drawn from literature and science fiction. His films and artworks have been presented at venues including the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), the Athens Biennale and major exhibition spaces across Europe and the United States. His previous works include “The Trial” (2021), “Dying Marxists” (2018) and “The Confidence Man, His Masquerade” (2015).
