The rainforest had always been a place of play, where the Wounaan shared stories and legends, including that of the butterfly. Life unfolded far from the reach of war until, one day, armed men emerged from the depths of the lush forest. With them came fear, threat and death. She had known their presence since childhood. She watched them in silence, too afraid to act. Now, as the leader of her community, she serves as its guiding light, returning to the forest to meet these men face to face in search of the peace she dreams of reclaiming for her children.

Director: Aner Etxebarria

Aner Etxebarria is a documentary director and producer specialising in stories focused on anthropology and nature conservation. Passionate about biodiversity and Indigenous cultures, he has worked in more than twenty countries across five continents. Throughout his career, he has worked as a director, producer and screenwriter on numerous documentaries, including “Baskavigin: La Matanza de los Balleneros Vascos” (2016, dir. Aitor Aspe). His recent works include the short documentaries “Tabira, Bayandalai”, “Lord of the Taiga” and “Joy”, which have received international recognition at festivals such as the Big Sky Film Festival, Rhode Island Film Festival, Wildscreen and the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival. He also co-directed the documentary series “Voces de la Tierra”, which explores communities that maintain unique symbiotic relationships with animals. Filmed across eleven countries, the series was nominated for the Jackson Wild Media Award for Best Documentary Series.
