Miguel and his family are preparing to emigrate from Cuba to Italy, where his mother already lives. While they wait, they are taking the first step in the journey of every migrant by learning the language of their desired destination.

Daniel Cortés studied Film Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University in Germany and completed a Master’s degree in the Theory and Practice of Creative Documentary at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He specialises in cinematography and directing non-fiction films. His undergraduate short film “Quixot D’Alella”, which he co-directed, premiered at BAFICI in 2025. His personal work focuses on themes such as migration, and he experiments with the form of non-fiction film, combining this with his work as an independent producer of short and feature-length documentaries. To make his first solo short film, he attended the International Film and Television School in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, alongside Jean Perret and Gianfranco Rosi.
