The Most Beautiful Corner in the World
by Robo Mihály, Slovakia, 2022, 25' Greek Premiere
The documentary essay illuminates the contemporary Slovak society by exposing the challenges in reflecting language and history, which has the potential to lead to the emergence of new authoritarianism. The film follows a young Ukrainian woman who is selected for a fictitious competition for a TV journalist. She attends a variety of events, people, and public protests in order to gain a deeper understanding of Slovak social and political realities. While the war in Ukraine is largely overshadowed by the global focus on other events, it is also having a significant impact on the current mood, societal tensions, language, and the emergence of new forms of populism in the country.
