Beyond Storytelling Part II: The Island in Progress

In the second part of the Beyond Storytelling workshop, we return to footage filmed during the previous session in the summer of 2024. We shift from the fictional narrative of Mediterraneo into the realm of documentary—into the backstreets, from the doorway into the interior of the home. This phase focuses on the island as it is lived and shaped in the present—through people, spaces, and gestures of return.

We follow Aleko as he sculpts his way into the island’s material fabric. We accompany the Kassies in their efforts to renovate and reinhabit their ancestral homes. And we listen to those who first arrived when goats were the island’s most visible presence—and stayed because they heard something more.

This is a work in progress: an attempt to trace how the island is being shaped by those who engage with it today.
