James Bond At Berlin’s Death-Strip / The Real 007s & The KGB Killer

by Jean-Christoph Caron & Ali Soozandeh, Germany/England, 2021/2023, 30'

Greek Premiere

Are there real-life inspirations for the world’s most popular spy character James Bond 007? This documentary decodes how Bond’s creator Ian Fleming had been strongly inspired by events of the Cold War that were even stranger than fiction. Some iconic scenes from the 007 movies were modelled on spy missions involving Berlin at a time when the city was divided by a dangerous border “death-strip” into sectors of East and West. Exciting animated scenes re-create a duel of snipers across the border, a spectacular escape, and the tragic story of a young KGB agent, with a very poisonous weapon.
