How to suture the soil?

A son writes a letter to his mother as he retraces the path she once took, fleeing her home due to the state’s neglect in rural Ecuador during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Echoes of the past resonate in the present, cutting through both personal and geographical wounds.

Wil Paucar Calle is a graduate in Cinema from the University of the Arts (Ecuador), he is interested in analog and experimental approaches to image-making. In 2020, he received a scholarship in film and television scriptwriting from the National Cinematheque of Ecuador. He has worked as a writer for the EDOC festival and is an editor at 25Watts magazine. His short film ¿Cómo suturar la tierra? premiered at IDFA 2024. In 2023, he received the Ernesto Albán award, granted by the Municipality of Quito, for best short-form audiovisual work for his short film El Viento trae canciones del Trópico. He is currently developing his first feature film.
