The Truth About the Telegraph
by Kieran Mpetyane Satour, Australia, 2024, 17' International Premiere
The Truth About the Telegraph explores the disruptions caused by the Telegraph Line through the stories of the Kaytetye and Warumungu peoples and their encounters with the telegraph stations—sites of early frontier violence.
Situated in the heart of Central Australia, the film transports viewers beyond a colonial history written by settlers and marked by exploitation, wires, and poles across Country. It reveals a complex tapestry of testimonies that unearth a deeper narrative of cultural displacement, resilience, enduring connection to Country, and survival amid rapid societal change.
