In the talk we will present a brief history of mathematical magic tricks and other puzzles from antiquity to modern times. Then we shall present some interesting such mathematical magic tricks.
Michael Lambrou
Professor of Mathematics at the University of Crete, born in Nairobi. Graduated from Imperial College with Ph.D. at King’s College, London. Worked also at the University of Alabama, King’s College, University of Cyprus and of Western Australia. Member of the Bulletin of the Greek Mathematical Society. Editor of the electronic journal Forum Geometricorum, the Romanian journal on elementary mathematics and QUANTUM magazine (Greek edition). His main interest in popularizing mathematics at all levels is reflected by the many books he has written, translations, his work with Mathematical Olympiads especially the Kangaroo International Mathematics Competition with 6,5 million participants per year, his training of teachers of gifted students, a large amount of public lectures internationally, a series of articles, the founding and co-ordination of the most popular mathematics forum in Greece(www.mathematica.gr) .
