Call for volunteers in the 11th Beyond Borders 2026!
The Beyond Borders | Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival is preparing for its 11th edition, setting sail from 23 to 30 August 2026 for the most multicultural and refreshing cine-event of the upcoming summer!
We are inviting enthusiastic, reliable and dedicated individuals to join the preparation and implementation of the 11th edition of the Festival. Volunteers form a crucial link between the Festival, the island of Kastellorizo, our guests and the filmmakers, making their contribution essential to the success of the event. This involves active participation across all Festival activities and tasks, commitment and the opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills.
In addition to taking part in a large international program and viewing dozens of films from around the world, as well as artistic creations and parallel cultural activities, volunteers will have the opportunity to further develop their skills and knowledge. Through active engagement in projects, workshops, Festival activities and direct interaction with filmmakers and professionals from Greece and abroad, volunteers gain invaluable experience. The Festival covers transportation expenses from Athens to Kastellorizo and back, accommodation on the island, as well as meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for the volunteers.
Qualifications and Requirements
Volunteers should be between 18 and 60 years old. Key qualities include courtesy, responsibility, reliability, communication skills, creativity and teamwork, ability to work under pressure and excellent command of English, due to the international nature of the Festival. Knowledge of additional foreign languages will be an asset.
Volunteer Roles
The areas of responsibility for volunteers at the 11th edition are:
- Floor Manager Assistants: Volunteers in this role will provide support to Festival staff and external partners in the three screening venues. They will actively contribute to the organization and smooth operation of the spaces, assisting with morning and afternoon shifts throughout the Festival week.
- Information & Sales Team: Volunteers in this group will be responsible for providing guests and visitors with information about the program and parallel activities at the info kiosks. - Guest Transportation Team: Volunteers will facilitate the movement of Festival guests, including groups and individual attendees, to accommodation, events and activities. Their contribution is vital for the smooth execution of morning and afternoon shifts throughout the Festival week.
- Venue & Materials Assistants: Volunteers will actively participate in essential organizational tasks, including preparing spaces, transporting equipment, and arranging materials. Their support is crucial for the smooth operation of the Festival and maintaining functional event spaces.
- Social Media Team: Volunteers will actively participate in the digital coverage of the Festival and in creating content for official channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn), including photography and videography of screenings, workshops and events, writing captions and posts, live coverage during events, collaboration with the official media team for posting schedules and communication strategy, archiving content and small projects such as reels, story highlights, or short video presentations of films and interviews. Participation in the Social Media Team provides volunteers with practical skills in digital media, photography and video, while contributing significantly to the Festival’s overall communication strategy.
